A bit of a do.
Late last week I had a call to see if I could shoot a do as the booked photographer became unavailable. I was free and for this night I was definatly free.
It was an event in support of Elsie’s Story Charitable fund, set up in the aftermath of last year’s horrendous events in Southport. Providing help to children in the most challenging of circumstances.
The event was going to be held in The Grand Hotel in the Princess Grace suite on the first floor, a venue I have photographed before.
My task in hand was to capture arrivals and general shots of the evening.
For the greeting shots I set up two speed lights on stands with umbrellas, in the foyer. A small space and there was a welcome sign for guests to stand beside. The main problem was, it is all glass so highly reflective so I spent a few minutes getting the angles right so the lights would illuminate the guests and not reflect in the glass too much.
Then off to the main hall, the lighting in the room is a mix of colours, cast by the different bulbs in the lights as well as disco lights swirling around the room.
The most important thing is to be aware of your surroundings and keep your eyes peeled for what’s unfolding. Don’t standstill and don’t get in anyone’s way.
The evening took the fund to over a million pounds, it was really nice to have taken a small part in the event.
