Battle of Mons event

On Friday last I was working with Southport’s Atkinson Gallery to photograph a civic event to commemorate not only the twinning of Sefton with Mons in Belgium but also to highlight an exhibition on at the gallery about the legend of The Angels of Mons.

My brief concerned capturing the civic dignitaries from Sefton and Mons as well as other invited guests. Then onto Southport’s Monument and finally the reception at The Atkinson. This would involve shooting indoors, so lets bring a speedlight, outside into a beautiful Southport Friday morning so harsh strong sunlight which is not as helpful to photography as you might think. Having worked at the Monument I knew some would be in very bright light and some would be in shadow. Having to balance this out in the images was going to be a bit challenging, but not impossible.

Once everyone had assembled we left the Town Hall to walk over to The Cenotaph led by the guests from Mons carrying a picture depicting the legend.
